At Rigby foundation, we believe that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right. Through our Healthcare Initiative, we are committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate healthcare services to individuals and communities in need. Our healthcare arm encompasses a wide range of services aimed at addressing various health challenges and promoting well-being across different sectors of society. We understand the diverse healthcare needs of communities, and we are dedicated to delivering tailored solutions that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Support for HIV Patients

In Kabarole District and Fort portal city, HIV/AIDS remains a significant health concern, with an estimated prevalence of 11.3 and 17.8 percent respectively, far above the national average of 5.1 percent thus requiring attention. Rigby foundation is actively engaged in providing support and care for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Our services include medical consultations, awareness and Education campaigns, Condom distribution, counseling and support groups, Research and Development of new prevention methods and treatment and collaborate with partners to leverage resources, expertise and funding. We prioritize holistic care, ensuring that patients receive not only medical treatment but also emotional and social support to live fulfilling lives with dignity.

Maternal and Child Healthcare

All the percentage of births attended by skilled health personnel has improved, it still exists in Kabarole District while maternal mortality remains a challenge with a rate of about 435 per 100,000 live births much higher above the national value of 189 per 100,000 live birth and the under 5 mortality rate currently sits at 129/1000. Rigby foundation is committed to ensuring safe and healthy pregnancies for mothers and their babies. Our maternal and Child healthcare services encompass prenatal care, skilled birth attendance, postnatal support, and education on maternal and newborn health. We prioritize maternal well-being and strive to reduce maternal mortality rates by providing timely and quality care to expectant mothers.

Combating Malaria

Malaria continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Kabarole District especially among the children below the age of 5years with a prevalence of about 53%. Rigby foundation is dedicated to preventing, diagnosing, and treating malaria infections. Our initiatives include distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets, indoor residual spraying, access to antimalarial medications, and community education on malaria prevention and early detection.

Mental Healthcare

Mental health disorders affect a significant portion of the population in Uganda where Kabarole District belongs. According to World Health Organization, 1 in every 8 people have a mental illness and by a report by Counselling association and Ministry of Health published in the New Vision on 13th-May-2022, showed that 14 million (35 in every 100) Ugandans had Mental illnesses arising mainly from the pressure of living costs, Substance abuse among others and this was made worse by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Rigby foundation is committed to promoting mental health awareness and providing accessible mental healthcare services. Our initiatives include counseling, psychotherapy, support groups, and community outreach programs aimed at reducing stigma and improving access to mental health resources.

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

Non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer are emerging health concerns in Kabarole District as this is noted in the NCD clinic that runs every Thursday of the week at fort portal Regional Referral Hospital that attends to about 250-300 patient. Rigby foundation focuses on prevention, early detection, and management of these conditions. We provide education on healthy lifestyles, screening services, linkage to medications, and support for patients living with NCDs to improve their quality of life and reduce the burden of these diseases on individuals and communities.
